Democrats’ Pro-Hamas, Open-Borders Extremism Looks Worse After Michigan’s Near-Terror Attack

The FBI shared alarming details this week of a foiled suspected Muslim terror plot targeting Americans on Halloween in Dearborn, Michigan. This incident should not be seen in isolation but as another consequence of elected Democrats’ embrace of open-border policies, which critics argue have enabled pro-Hamas extremists both in government and throughout AmericaFederal prosecutors charged two 20-year-old metro Detroit men, Mohmed Ali and Majed Mahmoud, on Nov. 3 with conspiring to carry out an ISIS-inspired attack in Ferndale over Halloween weekend with rifles, shotguns, and handguns. A year-long FBI investigation, using an undercover informant, encrypted-app recordings, and surveillance, alleges the men were part of a group that shared extremist materials, stockpiled weapons and ammo, trained at ranges, and scouted Ferndale nightlife spots to attack. FBI Director Kash Patel praised the operation, saying agents stopped a potential massacre, and local leaders in Oakland County thanked law enforcement for their support.

The selection of Halloween weekend for the alleged plot is notable, as Islamist extremists have historically viewed Western holidays as symbols of cultural infidelity and prime targets for attacks. Similar patterns emerged during the Obama administration, when ISIS-inspired attackers struck Christmas events, including the 2015 San Bernardino shooting at an office holiday party. Weeks later, then-candidate Donald Trump proposed restricting immigration from terrorism-affected countries. When he followed through on this promise, critics accused him of instituting a “Muslim ban.”

Many have warned that there’s an obvious need to reinstate the restrictive policy to ensure dangerous, unvetted populations aren’t flocking to America while plotting acts of violence. Dearborn, Michigan, is practically the poster child for what happens when refugees from one country take over an American city while rejecting core American values. The city has an ever-growing Muslim-majority that elected Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a vocal supporter of several radical Muslim extremists and anti-American organizations, to Congress.

During her time in the United States Congress, Rep. Rashida Tlaib has built quite a record embracing extremism and political violence. In August 2025, Tlaib spoke at the People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit, an event featuring speakers who advocated sabotaging U.S. military aircraft, assassinating American politicians, and indoctrinating children with pro-Hamas ideology. The conference even included sessions directly promoting youth radicalization with pro-Hamas talking points. When confronted by Laura Loomer in September about her role in the event, Tlaib refused to apologize and laughed off the national security concerns.

Rep.Tlaib’s pattern of refusing to condemn jihadism continued throughout 2025. In March, she declined to disavow anti-Trump protesters flying Hamas flags outside the White House. In June, Tlaib remained silent when similar demonstrators displayed Iranian flags and distributed “86 47” stickers and yelled threatening chants against President Trump. “86 47” is a reference to killing President Trump, made famous by an Instagram post by James Comey.

Rep. Ilhan Omar represents another district shaped by significant Muslim immigration, much like Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s. Omar has faced scrutiny time and time again for statements perceived as overly sympathetic to radical Islamist causes. In March and April, when asked about pro-Palestinian protesters displaying Hezbollah flags near Congress and the White House, she deflected, telling a reporter, “I condemn the smugness on your face.”

Democrat elected officials have repeatedly failed to discipline members over such episodes. In September, Rep. Jamie Raskin sidestepped questions about Tlaib’s speech at the People’s Conference for Palestine. Weeks later, House Democrats unanimously opposed a resolution to censure Omar after she posted a video using the same defamatory rhetoric toward Charlie Kirk that led to an angry leftist killing him in cold blood. Rep.Omar declined to apologize.

The pattern extends to senior Democrats.. Last summer, Reps. Jerry Nadler, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ro Khanna, and Pramila Jayapal attended a D.C. breakfast hosted by New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, who has used the phrase “globalize the intifada.” Nadler and Ocasio-Cortez called the characterization a “lie.” Khanna and Jayapal offered no public rebuke, despite calls for them to do so.

National security analysts have long argued that unchecked immigration and radical Muslim extremism should be met with tougher scrutiny. Republicans, they say, should draw a clear line denouncing Sharia advocacy while also addressing this problem with clear-eyed solutions that keep Americans safe. This includes limiting immigration from countries deeply affected by Islamic terrorism, where vetting immigrants is difficult or impossible, enforcing existing immigration laws, and ensuring all immigrants allowed into America align with American values.

The foiled Michigan plot was narrowly averted. Without policy shifts, the next attempt may succeed.
