Karoline Leavitt: ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Proves Trump Is ‘Greatest Closer’ In American History

WASHINGTON—The White House headed into Memorial Day weekend celebrating President Donald Trump’s role in passing the “Big, Beautiful Bill” this week, in a move that White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt believes is historic.

The Republican-led House passed the massive reconciliation bill in a 215 to 214 vote early Thursday morning following all-night sessions in the Rules Committee and on the House floor. The bill’s passage is a significant victory for President Trump — and one that his critics had suggested was not possible.

Leavitt emphasized to The Daily Wire that the bill’s passage demonstrates that the president is “the unequivocal leader of the Republican Party,” adding, “He proved the liberal media and political pundits wrong yet again by uniting all factions of the House GOP to pass the One, Big, Beautiful Bill ahead of schedule.”

“There’s never been a more powerful and persuasive President than Donald Trump,” she added.

During Thursday’s press briefing, Leavitt called the bill the “most significant piece of legislation in years.” While there were many “good faith” negotiations that went into crafting the bill, Leavitt argued that Trump’s actions to bring “all sides together” were what brought the bill over the finish line.

“This could not have happened without the President’s leadership,” Leavitt said in a post on X. “President Trump is the greatest closer in the history of presidential politics.”

“The One, Big, Beautiful Bill will implement President Trump’s Make America Great Again agenda by delivering the largest tax cut in American history, the largest border security investment in history, and the largest deficit reduction in nearly 30 years,” she added. “The Senate should pass this critical legislation as soon as possible to usher in America’s Golden Age.”

House Republicans are urging the Senate not to water down any of the provisions they included in the reconciliation bill, warning that it may not make it through the House a second time if the Senate alters it too much.

“They cobbled together a very delicate balance over there,” Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) reportedly said. “But, you know, the Senate will have its imprint on it.”

“They’ve got to do what they can get 218 for, and we’ve got to do what we can get 51 for.”

For his part, Trump has heralded the bill as historic, promising it will be the most significant piece of legislation signed in American history. In a Truth Social post earlier this week, he touted the bill’s “massive tax cuts,” the inclusion of “no tax on tips,” “no tax on overtime,” “tax deductions when you purchase American made” vehicles, strong border security measures, pay raises for Border Patrol Agents and ICE, and more.

“Great job by Speaker Mike Johnson, and the House Leadership, and thank you to every Republican who voted YES on this Historic Bill!” Trump said. “Now, it’s time for our friends in the United States Senate to get to work, and send this Bill to my desk AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! There is no time to waste.”

“The Democrats have lost control of themselves, and are aimlessly wandering around, showing no confidence, grit, or determination,” the president added. “They have forgotten their landslide loss in the Presidential Election, and are warped in the past, hoping someday to revive Open Borders for the World’s criminals to be able to pour into our Country, men to be able to play in women’s sports, and transgender for everybody. They don’t realize that these things, and so many more like them, will NEVER AGAIN happen!”
