On May 8th, 2025, the Catholic Church selected Cardinal Robert Prevost, a Chicago-born missionary with deep ties to the South American nation of Peru, as Pope Leo XIV. His historic rise came shortly after the death of Pope Francis on April 21st, 2021, just one day after the Holy Day of Easter.
A Loomer Unleashed investigation into the first American pope has yielded substantial evidence that he is strongly against President Donald Trump and the Make America Great Again Movement, and has been a vocal proponent of the Never Trump movement.
Robert Prevost, the first American pontiff in history, has a long history of criticizing President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and the Trump administration’s border security policies. Prevost has also shared anti-Second Amendment posts from Senator Chris Murphy’s account, who is known for obstructing President Trump’s nominees and policies in the U.S. Senate. Additionally, Prevost promoted George Floyd-related content during the summer of 2020, when Black Lives Matter and Antifa were rioting across America in Floyd’s name, causing over $1 billion in damages.
Sharing Pro-Gang, Anti-Deportation Rhetoric Before His Election
Less than a month before he was elected pope, Prevost amplified a post from Rocco Palmo that endorsed the reentry of MS-13 gang members into the United States. The post read, “As Trump & Bukele use Oval to Feds’ illicit deportation of a US resident (https://bit.ly/3ROMjnP), once an undoc-ed Salvadorean himself, now-DC Aux +Evelio asks, Do you not see the suffering? Is your conscience not disturbed? How can you stay quiet?”
Prevost was sharing anti-Trump posts on his X account just weeks before he was selected to lead the Catholic Church, but they certainly weren’t a product of the current times. The new Pope has been a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and particularly his stand against illegal immigration.
Prevost Attacked President Trump As ‘Racist’ In Post From X Account
In September 2017, Robert Prevost’s X account shared a post from Rocco Palmo claiming that President Donald Trump was racist for referring to illegal immigrants as “bad hombres.” That same month, Prevost’s X account also reshared a post from Sister Helen Prejean advocating for illegal immigrants to gain American citizenship.
Rocco Palmo, who claims to be based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has posted numerous anti-Trump messages, including one endorsing Prevost’s attacks on Vice President JD Vance. That message reads, “Now it can be told… the last thing beamed out by Pope Leo XIV. E poi, nuff said. Viva il Papa!”
Prevost Takes Direct Aim at Vice President JD Vance
In February 2025, Prevost directly attacked Vice President JD Vance, posting, “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn’t ask us to rank our love for others.” That post links back to an article written by Kat Armas at NCR Online.
A portion of that article criticizes JD Vance for public statements he made urging Christians to care about their families and loved ones before attempting to ‘change the world.’ Vance said, “There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then you love your neighbor, and then you love your community, and then you love your fellow citizens, and then after that, prioritize the rest of the world. A lot of the far left has completely inverted that.”
The author absurdly criticizes Vance, saying that his statement was “echoing a medieval concept.”
New Pope Attacked Trump For Being ‘Anti-Immigrant’ In Unearthed X Post
On July 31, 2015, Prevost shared a pro-open borders, anti-Trump Washington Post article with the caption, “Cardinal Dolan: Why Donald Trump’s anti-immigrant rhetoric is so problematic.”
Robert Prevost’s X posts reveal a disdain for President Trump and his administration’s decision to make securing the Southern Border a priority.
In January 2017, Prevost’s X account shared multiple anti-Trump, pro-illegal immigration posts. One from the Catholic News Agency read, “The spirited response of Mexico’s bishops to Trump’s border wall.”
That same month, Prevost shared a post from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ X account criticizing the Trump administration’s executive order aimed at ensuring children illegally trafficked across the border are safely monitored.
Illegal immigration is not the only woke issue Prevost has embraced during his career.
Pope Robert Prevost Made Many Posts Supporting George Floyd Riots In 2020
In May 2020, Prevost reposted statements from Bishop Burbidge in Arlington, Virginia, supporting George Floyd: “We continue to pray for Mr. George Floyd and his family. In his honor, and as we prepare for Pentecost, we ask the Holy Spirit to unite us and heal our wounds. May all hatred, violence, and prejudice be eradicated so that we may live in harmony and in the peace of Our Lord Jesus.”
Around the same time that Prevost shared Burbidge’s statement, Black Lives Matter and Antifa were rioting in major U.S. cities to honor George Floyd. These “Summer of Love” riots included attempts to storm the White House, which happens to be located across the river from Bishop Burbidge’s church.
Prevost Has Repeatedly Shared Posts From Raging Anti-Trump Senator Chris Murphy
Prevost’s social media history also includes sharing posts from anti-Trump U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, who has attacked the Second Amendment. Murphy, a vocal Trump critic, has been confronted by Loomer Unleashed at several anti-Trump protests in Washington, D.C. in 2025. Ironically, in February 2025, Loomer Unleashed questioned Murphy about speaking to an anti-Trump mob outside the White House at sunset, some of whom were waving Palestinian flags.
It is noteworthy that the Vatican, whose leadership has displayed an anti-Trump, pro-open borders agenda, chose to elect an American Pope during Trump’s presidency.
