UPDATE: Smith won the oscar for best actor after the assault and was allowed to take the stage to accept the award.

Will Smith rushed the Oscar stage and decked comedian Chris Rock in the face for making a joke about his wife being in “G.I. Jane 2” because of her haircut.

The actress had shaved her head to deal with her alopecia, which causes hair loss.

Rock cracked the joke and had started to move on as Smith approached the stage and slapped him dead in the face.

Rock, stunned, attempted to shake it off and keep going as Smith shouted at him from back in the audience.

The outburst from the audience was not censored in Australia, with the Fresh Prince of Bel Aire actor shouting keep my wife’s name out of your f-cking mouth!”

“Wow dude, it was a G.I. Jane joke,” Rock responded, adding “that was the greatest night in the history of television.”

During the commercial break, Smith was pulled aside by Denzel Washington and Tyler Perry who appeared to be telling him to brush it off. Smith appeared to wipe away tears while returning to his seat with Jada and his PR rep.

It was not immediately clear if the actor was removed from the award’s ceremony following the outburst.

This is a developing story and Gateway Pundit will update as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: This article originally said that he punched him, but it appears to have been a slap.
